Every patient is different! I offer several different myofunctional therapy treatment plans ranging in price and duration. Each program is specifically tailored to the patient and their individual needs. Myofunctional therapy is all about changing habits and strengthening muscles to improve the way we breathe, speak, chew and swallow.
This foundation therapy covers nasal breathing, chewing, swallowing and tongue resting posture. There are three parts to this therapy including the intensive, habituation and retention phases. This therapy is tailored to each patient’s individual needs. The comprehensive therapy ranges between 12-15 sessions depending on the severity of symptoms and the patient’s progress. If need be, I will offer extra sessions towards the end of therapy to ensure that habits are effectively changed.
If tongue-tie surgery is recommended, or a thumb or finger sucking habit is involved, then the therapy format will be slightly different. Each of these situations calls for additional treatment before the start of therapy.
Thumb or Finger Sucking Habit Elimination
Designed to help children stop thumb and/or finger sucking. Thumb and/or finger sucking can be detrimental to airway health and facial growth and development including orthodontics. This program is designed to be fun and exciting to kick that habit!
Program designed to help prevent reattachment after the tongue-tie is released. It is crucial to work with a myofunctional therapist before and after releasing the tongue. Reattachment rate is very high without the help of stretches and exercises. This therapy is included in the comprehensive therapy program. Most patients who have a tongue-tie need more than just a release. It is recommended that every patient who has a tongue-tie release, or frenectomy, engages in the comprehensive therapy program.
Do you think you can spare 10-15 minutes a day? That’s right, that’s all it takes! It is important to realize that at home participation in any exercise based therapy program is crucial for your success. If you don’t practice at home, you will not experience all of the benefits that the program has to offer. For those who do the exercises with full effort will finish the program with lasting results.
